Waxing FAQs
We know waxing and any new treatment can be intimidating, and even a little scary if it’s your first time. Fear not! We’re here to answer your questions and guide you through the entire experience. We love to wax, we love to talk about waxing, and we want your waxing experience to be the best it can be! If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for below, we are on standby to help, just phone, email or message us!
We require that you have at least a 3-week hair growth. Especially for your first wax, the longer your hair is, the better your wax will be. It is VERY important to have enough hair growth when you come for your appointment. This allows the wax to grab the hairs easily. If your hair is too short, we will ask you to reschedule your appointment.
No, even if you feel they are a bit long don’t worry or be embarrassed. No hair is too long for us. In fact, our waxes are specially formulated for long hairs.
No, it doesn’t bother us at all. We just ask that you use a fresh tampon and we will work around the string. There will be hygiene wipes available in the treatment room. Sometimes clients find they can just be a little more sensitive around that time of the month.
We only supply disposable underwear for the basic bikinis and for minor clients. If you are having an advanced bikini wax such as a Brazilian or Hollywood we will not provide disposable underwear. In order for us to give you the best results, we need to be able to see the hair easily. Any covering will just get in the way. Don’t be embarrassed, we do this every day and your therapist will ensure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout.
Ok, if it is your first wax after years of shaving it won’t be great BUT with our experience and technique, we will make it as pain-free as possible. After your first time, it gets so much easier. If you stick to a schedule of waxing every 4-6 weeks its a breeze. Plus we will keep you chatting to keep your mind off the pain. The time will fly and the results will be worth it.
It does depend on the client but we normally allow up to 30 minutes for a Hollywood appointment. The first time is always the longest but every month it gets quicker.
4 weeks is a baseline for most areas on the body. Some clients will have slower hair growth and the time will be changed accordingly. Your therapist will advise you when you should come back.
It is possible but not probable. Some clients are super smooth after their first experience and some are not. It all depends on their hair type and if they have been shaving. There are three stages in a hair cycle and not all hairs will be in the same stage of growth. It will take a few treatments for the hairs to all catch up with each other.
Possibly. Some clients get ingrown hairs no matter what type of hair removal they choose. By following all our aftercare advise you can prevent getting ingrown hairs. We also have very good products to prevent and treat ingrown hairs if needed.
Yes, just let us know that you are pregnant when booking your appointment. We have a lot of experience with maternity waxing and we can adapt all our waxing treatments to suit our Mama’s to be. We would normally not advise it if you are a first-time waxer and close to your due date as it can be very uncomfortable. The best thing to do is start early in the pregnancy for the best results. If you call us we will advise you on the best options for you.
We use a brand called Waxxxpress, it is manufactured in Australia by Caron Laboratories and only the highest quality ingredients are used. All the Waxxxpress products and waxes are cruelty-Free & Vegan Friendly! We use hot wax for sensitive areas such as bikinis, underarms and face, our hot wax stays flexible and pliable resulting in a more comfortable wax. The advantage of using this hot wax is that we can go over the same area more than once without causing irritation to the skin as it is melted at a lower temperature, it is perfect for very delicate and sensitive skin types. For larger areas such as legs, arms, chests, and backs we use a warm wax that is removed with a paper strip. All our Pre & Post products are also Waxxxpress.
Okay, we get this a lot!! The Classic Bikini is just a quick tidy up, hair is removed from just outside the pants line, it’s very basic.
The High-line is tighter then the Classic, hair is removed from inside the pants line and a little along the top.
The Californian, aka ”G-String”, is much tighter, hair is removed from the inner thigh, sides, and top, the bum area can be included if you like.
Brazilian aka ”The Landing strip”, hair is removed from inside the bum area, sides, and top, just leaving a strip of hairs along the Labia. The Extended version just leaves a small line or triangle on the top, all hair is removed from the labia.
The Hollywood is when ALL the hair is removed from EVERYWHERE, completely bare.
No, absolutely not, we pride ourselves on our hygiene standards here at Wax Addicts and NEVER ever double dip our spatulas for any waxing treatments. This means a new spatula is used every time we dip into the wax, this avoids any cross-contamination and keeps our wax 100% clean.
We would ask all new waxing clients to pop in for a quick patch test 24-48 hrs before your waxing appointment. If you have been professionally waxed in a salon in the past with no reactions you don’t need to get a patch test but its always a good idea if you have sensitive skin or re-acted to waxing before. It also gives you a chance to see the salon and ask us any questions you might have.
Threading FAQs
Threading is a form of hair removal that originated in India. It involves twisting a piece of cotton thread and then rolling it on the skin which grabs the hairs. This motion gently pulls the hairs out from the root. It is a natural hair removal technique and is ideal for any type of skin.
For those who haven’t experienced threading before and are a little scared, there is no need! 90% of clients who were new to threading couldn’t believe how easy it was & how much less it hurt than waxing. There is no flinch waiting for the pull of the wax strip and no stinging sensation afterward. Some areas are slightly more painful then others, most clients find the lip or sides of face the most uncomfortable.
The area threaded will be a little pink for a short time post-treatment, but this is completely normal after hair removal from the follicle.
Threading is the better choice for the removal of facial hair because it is much gentler and can be performed on even the most sensitive of skins. No patch test, no allergic reactions, no sticky residue & most importantly no pulling of the skin. Expect a more precise & defined brow shape.
When you wax eyebrow and lip areas using strip wax you are not only removing hair but also a layer of skin. Over time brows will begin to sag & wrinkles will seem more pronounced in the lip area. The beauty of threading is that hair is removed from the root but the skin is not pulled, thereby reducing the chance of wrinkles with age. Win, win!
Threading lasts the same length of time as waxing. This of course varies from person to person as hair growth is different for everyone. The average time is between 2 & 4 weeks. The general consensus is that the more often the hair is removed from the root, the lighter it will grow back over time.
Threading does take a little longer than waxing as it is more intricate & can depend on how untidy the brow area is and how much definition the client wants. The removal of blond hair on the upper lip can take a while as it is extremely strong & notably difficult to see.
You will have some redness, it all depends on skin type and how often you get threaded. It will go down as the day goes on and is normally perfect the next day. We will advise you on any aftercare to help with redness.
We can thread all areas on the face i.e brows, lip, cheeks, jawline, sides of face, chin, forehead, and neck area.
Tinting FAQs
At Wax Addicts we use the HD tint brand. We have tried them all and this one is the best we have found, there is more shades to choose from and it is long lasting.
It depends on the hair type but normally it will last up to 3-6 weeks on most clients.
It is possible as sometimes a small amount of tint might get into the eye but don’t worry the stinging sensation will only last a few minutes, most clients will fall asleep during a lash tint as it can be very relaxing.
Absolutely, tinting eyebrows is an amazing treatment for fair hair, it can really add definition and make brows appear fuller as it will pick up all the tiny blonde hairs.
Yes, if it is your first time having tinting done with us then we will need you to pop in for a quick patch test.
Don’t worry, before we tint your brows we will have a detailed consultation with you to determine the shade and look that will suit you best.
We would recommend you get your tinting done every 4-6 weeks depending on how well your hairs hold onto the tint. Some clients will only get tinting done for holidays while other will religiously get them done every 4 weeks, it all depends on what you like but your therapist will advise you if needed.
HD Brows FAQs
Taking between 30-45 minutes, the High Definition Brows treatment creates a bespoke brow, tailored exclusively for you. Starting with a consultation, your Stylist will assess your brows and face shape to design your High Definition Brows. The next stages of the treatment consist of tinting, waxing, threading and plucking, we use a specially designed formula to give you perfectly defined brows. To finish, your therapist will use High Definition make up to complete and refine the brow area. You will leave with brows groomed to perfection and of course, a High Definition Brows addict!
Even if you have sparse brow areas, hope is not lost! Our expert therapists will work with you on a re-growth programme to achieve the perfect brow shape for you. In the meantime, you can ‘fake it till you make it’ with a little makeup application, demonstrated by your therapist.
The treatment price is €35. Its so much more than a quick 5-minute wax, appointments take around 45-minutes, the expert and precise detailing guarantees you a bespoke brow every time.
Regrowth differs between individuals, but we would usually recommend having the High Definition Brows treatment every 4-6 weeks.
We use tint in the High Definition Brows treatment to enhance the natural hairs of the brow. The tint can often pick up any downy hairs or any regrowth that will furthermore help design a desired shape. Sometimes the client can look like they have nothing to work with, but once you’ve had the tint applied, there can be lots of hair showing that you haven’t seen before. You may have seen one of our brow ‘before and after’ images and found the amount of hair suddenly appearing hard to believe – tinting is the secret behind this!
We know you mum’s-to-be want to keep your brows in check, but we encourage clients to skip the tint during this time, as a reaction from the tint is more likely to occur due to hormonal changes. If a reaction did occur, a pregnant client would be unable to take some medications .
Step away from the sunbeds and put the tan down! It is recommended that clients avoid high sun exposure for 48-hours before and after the treatment. This is to reduce the risk of reactions, soreness and dry/cracked skin. If mixed with tanning products (including tinted moisturiser) the tint will turn green, so we do not advise the use of tanning products prior to treatment.
There is always some pain with wax, however we do stretch the skin to minimise the risk of tearing and remove the wax in small strips, so the wax removal is efficient but quick. We always perform a heat test as well so that the wax won’t burn. Of course everybody has different pain thresholds!
Each hair removal technique has a specific purpose. The waxing removes unwanted hair from around the brow shape, whereas threading blends in the waxed area with the other downy hairs on the face to avoid harsh lines as well as to take further hairs closer to the shape. Tweezing can then remove individual hairs to really create that perfect, High Definition Brows shape.
Men can have High Definition Brows. Some men will want them more defined, some won’t. In the waxing stage your Stylist will probably not get as close to the shape of the brow as they would for a female client. Also, when tweezing the hairs, the technique of plucking one then miss one will be used so they are not as defined. Often with men, it is more of a tidy up rather than designing a shape.
Yes, all new clients will need to pop in for a quick patch test 48 hrs before your HD Brow appointment. If you are busy we can post you out a DIY patch test kit once you have booked your appointment wit us.
LVL Lash Lift FAQs
LVL is a ground breaking new technique designed to give you longer-looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. LVL stands for Length, Volume, Lift. At Wax addicts we use the Nouveau range which is Cruelty free & Vegan Friendly!
No. Clients often find LVL treatments extremely relaxing and normally have a nice nap.
The treatment takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour.
LVL can last up to 6 weeks depending on the length and quality of your natural lashes.
Although LVL is great for many people, its not suitable for everyone. People that have a medical contraindication to the treatment, or have experienced an allergic reaction to the patch test, cannot have LVL. Also, its only suitable for people that have their own natural lashes. Finally, people with excessively brittle or fine lashes may not be able to benefit from LVL.
Yes. You can have lash extensions done 48 hrs after your LVL treatment however at Wax Addicts we do not do Lash Extensions so you will have to inform your lash extensions artist that you had LVL done. LVL treatments are particularly good for people who want lash extensions but have downward pointing lashes. Lash Extensions can cause downward pointing lashes to lower even further. With LVL you can get the essential lift you need before before the extensions are applied. However, you must wait 48 hours after having LVL before the lash extensions can be applied.
YES! You MUST have a patch test at least 24 hours before having the LVL treatment as sensitivity to the products can arise.
NO PATCH TEST = NO TREATMENT!
Spray Tan FAQs
We use the VANI-T professional tanning solution which is formulated with result driven ingredients, chosen specifically for their performance and exceptional skincare benefits. VANI-T sources the finest natural and organic ingredients from all over the world, to ensure a luxury tanning experience for you. The VANI-T range is loved by A-list celebrities, beauty editors and TV shows around the globe including Australia’s very own Kylie Minogue, and is renowned for its award-winning formulas. VANI-T is 100% Australian owned and made, contains NO harmful chemicals or additives, award winning formulas, Cruelty Free and Vegan.
For sensitive skin, a patch test is recommended 24 hour prior to a fully body tan.
You can wear as much or as little as you want. However, we want you to be completely happy with your tan so think about the occasion, i.e holiday, party, spa day. For example if you are going on holiday you’re intending on wearing a Brazilian cut bikini we’d suggest you wear a bottom half that is also Brazilian cut or something smaller such as a thong or G-string to avoid any obvious tan lines. We will supply disposable underwear if needed.
Yes absolutely, majority of my clients wear something to protect their modesty however some of my clients choose to be naked to avoid the white lines.
Thankfully the quality of Van-T Solution means no staining of anything as we use the Velocity range which you wash off before you get into bed. If it gets on your clothing it will easily wash off in the washing machine.
If you are new to spray tanning and never had one before, it can feel a bit strange on your skin at first and you may be concerned about ruining it. However be rest assured if you allow yourself to dry you will be amazed at how light and comfortable it feels on your skin. Vani-T Solution is very resilient however you do need to be careful not to get it wet before it has developed. If you need to go out and it’s raining wear something to protect your tan and take an umbrella.
Loose, dark and comfortable clothing is advised. Nothing tight like jeans, legging, gym bottoms, tight tops or bra etc. Depending on the time of year a loose dress can be great if its summer or loose bottoms and long sleeve cotton top if its winter. Remember anything tight or anything that has a tight waist will mark your tan.
You have control of the darkness of this tan, depending on what result you are looking for, the tan can be rinsed off after:
1 hour = light tan, 2 hours = medium tan, 3 – 4 Hours = dark tan. Note: The tan will still continue to deepen after showering.
Vani-T can last up to two weeks (depending how you look after it). We will give you your aftercare advise before you leave your appointment for best results.
Vani-T solution has no SPF protection in it whatsoever so you will need to apply sun cream as normal, you can still achieve a natural looking tan with a spray tan.
There’s no studies/research to suggest that spray tanning is in any way harmful. I have sprayed a lot of mums to be and never had any problems however I do recommend that you wait until you are at least 12 weeks. Please be aware that during pregnancy your body is going through a lot of changes especially with hormones therefore your tan could potentially come out slightly lighter or darker than normal. Of course it may be exactly as you expect it to be as well, we just need you to know this is a possibility.
We would advise you not to shave after your tan a you are effectively shaving the first layer of your skin and that’s exactly where the tan is resting. If you do decide to shave after then please use a really good razor and go over once not several times. We would recommend that you get waxed 2-3 days before a spray tan.
Moisturise the skin everyday for the two weeks prior to your tan appointment and exfoliate every second day, this will give you the best base for a flawless tan application!!
Follow these quick tips just before your appointment:
Thoroughly exfoliate the night before.
Any hair removal to be done 24 hours prior.
Shower just prior to your appointment if possible.
Wear no moisturiser, makeup, deodorant or perfume to your appointment.
